SHS VASE students advance to state

On Saturday, February 15th, Seminole had 54 students entered 63 pieces of art into the Region 17 VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event) art competition at Plainview High School in Plainview, TX. The competition consisted of 16 school districts with 21 schools participating.

Seminole had four students advance to the state competition; Sydney Gonzales, junior, Raven Parker, junior, Sandra Hernandez Tarango, sophomore, and Kevin Ronquillo, freshman. Seminole earned 51 total medals.

A rating of a "4" is the highest a student can earn.  Those receiving the highest ratings are considered to move on to state competition. Out of 393 pieces of art, only 28 were chosen to be state-bound. This is only 7% of the total artwork, 10% of those who earned a medal.

This is an incredible job well done by our students and sponsors. If you are interested in seeing the work of these artists, they will be featured in the Seminole Art Walk that will take place in the Powwow Room on March 24th. You may also view their work at "Night of Fine Arts" in the Performing Arts Center that will be held on May 4th.

Seminole High School Art teachers are Bryce Autry and Carissa Autry.
